Local teacher temporarily stripped of certification for homophobic prank

By

LANGLEY (NEWS1130) – A local teacher has been suspended two weeks for a homophobic prank on a student.

The incident in question happened in September last year, when Aldergrove Community Secondary School teacher Daniel Ogloff placed a piece of tape with the words “I’m gay” on a Grade 11 student’s back in his classroom.

The boy’s peers laughed, even taking photographs, and the student left the classroom with the tape still on his back.

Ogloff, who teaches a metal fabrication and machining class, has served a 10-week suspension without  pay ending in January of this year for this action.

This past Monday, Ogloff began a two-week suspension of his teaching certification.

This teacher has previously had issues. Back in 2011, he was given a verbal warning for inappropriate remarks he made to Grade 7 students.

Ogloff has admitted all of these facts to the commissioner for the BC teacher regulation branch.
