Bike theft is on the rise in Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Constable Brian Montague says last year’s numbers showed just over two thousand bikes were stolen in the city of Vancouver and so far we are on track to have even more stolen in 2014.

“Bike theft is one the crimes in Vancouver that is on the rise. Most crime, violent crime and property crime is decreasing over the last decade. Bike crime is one of those things that we are really trying to get a handle on.”

He adds many of the bikes stolen are not locked up and the thefts happen all over the city.

Montague adds it is important for people to record the serial number of their bike, located on the underside of the frame, so if your bike is stolen you have a much better chance of getting it back.

You can also use a newly launched app called Log it or Lose it.
