North Shore Rescue resumes search for missing UK hiker

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Several search and rescue crews are teaming up on the local mountains to try and find a man who vanished nearly one year ago. Today, the focus is on areas that haven’t been checked before.

Twenty-two-year-old Tom Billings was an experienced hiker but it is believed he ran into some bad weather up on mountains.

Mike Danks with North Shore Rescue explains it’s very challenging to find someone who hasn’t been seen in so long and complicating the search is that the team doesn’t know what Billing was last wearing.

“We are in constant contact with the family they actually were just in town last week and spent some with our team and we are close communication with them and also with the Vancouver Police.”

He’s asking anyone else on the North Shore to keep an eye out, and if they see something out of the ordinary to call them or police. “We’ve got our fingers crossed. We’d really like to provide some closure to the family.”

Billings was only making a quick stop in Vancouver and police say he had a plane ticket to New York before he was supposed to head home to the UK. The VPD say there is nothing to suggest he may have been met with foul play.

His family has made several trips to Vancouver in the past year for updates on the investigation and to visit and thank the North Shore Rescue team.
