Canada health agency in close contact with US over Ebola developments

OTTAWA (NEWS1130) – The federal chief public health officer is reassuring Canadians the risk of contracting the Ebola virus remains low.

In an emailed statement, Dr. Gregory Taylor says the Public Health Agency of Canada is in close contact with its counterparts in the US.

He adds precautionary measures have been put in place at border crossings, including everyone coming from West Africa being put in contact with a quarantine officer for a health assessment.

Taylor says hospitals have systems and procedures in place to limit the spread of infection and protect health care workers.

The statement goes on to remind Canadians the Ebola virus does not spread easily from person to person, it’s not like the flu.

A second case of Ebola has been confirmed in Dallas, Texas. A nurse who cared for Thomas Duncan has been infected.

Duncan passed away last week.
