Truck licences to be reduced at Port Metro Vancouver

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Port Metro Vancouver plans to drastically cut licences for truckers conducting business there — the reduction will be at least 25 per cent.

It’s part of a new system aimed at reducing labour strife among truckers.

There are 2,000 trucks registered with the Port, and under this plan, that number would be dropped by 500 to 700.

“For competitiveness you need stability and reliability for everyone who works so hard and is involved in some facet with the Port to earn a decent living,” according to Transportation Minister Todd Stone.

The aim of this plan is to reduce rate under-cutting from some truckers which has led to strikes at the Port.
