More than 11,000 complaints against Canadian telecom companies last year: report

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – We still have a lot of complaints about telecom companies in Canada. There were more than 11,000 last year.

An annual report from the Commissioner for Complaints for Telecommunications Services says the number of complaints has gone down. But David Christopher with Open Media says it’s still appalling.

“Sadly, we’re seeing some shocking figures… that complaints about big telecom’s misleading billing practices are actually up by 74 per cent,” he tells us.

The Big Three — Bell, Telus, and our parent company Rogers — accounted for most of the complaints, with Bell taking over 40 per cent of the total.

“I think this makes it clearer than ever that Canadians really need more choice in our wireless market so that they don’t just have to depend on the Big Three,” says Christopher.

He argues despite our high prices, Canadians are still experiencing some of the worst wireless service in the industrialized world.
