SURREY (NEWS1130) – Advance voting seems to be catching on.

Metro Vancouver’s largest cities say turn out has doubled and advanced polls haven’t closed yet.

Surrey has counted votes for three days of advance voting and so far, 5,698 people have voted.

That is compared to the election in 2011 when 6,396 people voted over all five days.

Anthony Capuccinello with the city says this shows the push to get voters in engaged may be working. “I would think that it’s also a combination of maybe more voter interest. Obviously, that’s my opinion, but I know that we’re very agressive in our efforts to try to get the public engaged.”

Vancouver is boasting a major increase as well. The total to date is about 8,467 so far, up from 4,718 last election over the entire advance voting period.

Advance polling is still open in both cities.
