VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A man in White Rock is taking Remembrance Day one step further this year.
After the tragic Ottawa shooting three weeks ago, Clifford Grant says he wanted to make a difference. That is why the retiree is creating and selling artistic plaques to raise funds for the son of Cpl. Nathan Cirillo.
The whole idea started as just a project for him to remember, but now he wants to help others memorialize fallen soldiers with custom-made framed wall hanging of photos.
Grant say more than a dozen people have expressed interest so far. “[Something] that would honour the troops and the guys that were murdered, as well as be very respectful and dignified, well [you] look at [it] and say hey yeah, I made a contribution and yeah, I’m not going to forget those guys.”
He isn’t a veteran and doesn’t even have family ties to the military but that is not stopping him from helping out.
Grant adds there is a cost for the supplies used for the art piece which is going for $150, with a third of the proceeds going to a trust fund for five-year-old Marcus Cirillo.
