Cote taking over in New West, Corrigan re-elected in Burnaby

BURNABY/NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS1130) – It’s a change at the helm in New Westminster, but a familiar face takes back the mayor’s chair in Burnaby.

Jonathan Cote has unseated Wayne Wright for mayor of New West.

Wright held the job since 2002, but couldn’t beat the call for change in the community and support for Cote from four incumbent councillors.

Councillor Chuck Puchmayr, also voted back in, says it’s the right call:

“Him and I are very close friends and it’s really with mixed emotions tonight that I say goodbye to Wayne, but I’m very excited the direction council is going to go now with the young Jonathan Cote,” he tells us.

As widely expected, Derek Corrigan has won in Burnaby, taking a fifth term as mayor.
