More than a third of us will do all of our Christmas shopping online: poll

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Are you doing all of your holiday shopping at home in your pyjamas this year?

A poll commissioned by Google shows more of us than ever are skipping the Christmas chaos in the mall.

It finds more than one in three people will shop exclusively online this year; that’s a 50 per cent increase from 2013.

The poll also shows both Black Friday and Cyber Monday could be a bigger thing than ever here in Canada. Almost half the people asked say they will shop on at least one of those days.

Another survey from Google suggests smartphones are playing a bigger role this year too; people are using them to compare prices, look for coupons, and read reviews.

One credit card company says e-commerce now represents about seven per cent of total retail sales in Canada, a figure that’s been rising every year.
