Canada sending soldiers to Ukraine to help train military police

KYIV, UKRAINE (NEWS1130) – Defence Minister Rob Nicholson says Canadian soldiers are arriving in Ukraine to help train military police.

Nicholson says that training is part of an agreement he has signed with Ukraine pledging Canadian help in training the Ukrainian military.

He says Canada will help in military policing, medical procedures and personal protection education.

The minister won’t say how many trainers are being deployed nor how long they will stay.

This announcement follows Canadian donations of non-lethal military equipment, including medical kits, night-vision goggles and clothing.

Nicholson says Canada is looking for more ways to increase co-operation between Canada and Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression.
