BC least interested in Black Friday shopping: survey

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – When looking at the national picture, it seems British Columbians are least interested in Black Friday shopping.

The latest numbers may also make local retailers happy as we reach the peak of the holiday shopping season.

According to the DIG360 Ipsos Reid survey 52 per cent of Canadians participated in some form of Black Friday shopping but only 39 per cent of people in BC took part.

Strategist David Ian Gray says there was worry about Black Friday shopping eating up all the holiday spending. “About 41 per cent of those that were buying on Black Friday or Black Friday weekend were in fact mostly buying for themselves. So that suggests there is still a fair bit of capacity for gift purchasing left,” he says.

Gray says most people who did buy, scouted out what they wanted to purchase earlier in the fall, and then waited until they got the discount to actually pull the trigger.
