Gabriola Mansion in Vancouver’s West End goes on the market

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Sitting on the corner of Davie and Nicola, the Gabriola Mansion was built 1901 and designed by one of Vancouver’s best known architects Samuel Maclure according to civic historian John Atkin.

“It’s interesting that it has survived and largely survived intact because it went from being a house, to an apartment house, to a restaurant so the building has always been useful and that is why it has remained with us and hopefully it has a new use that continues its existence,” he explains.

Heritage expert Michael Kluckner says the West End mansion is a designated heritage site, which means whoever buys it can’t tear it down. “It was the second house built in Vancouver by BT Rogers, Benjamin Tingley Rogers who was the founder and the president of the BC Sugar Refinery in Vancouver.”

It has been listed for $10 million.
