A tough day on the Toronto Stock Exchange

By

TORONTO (NEWS1130) – The TSX is at its lowest since February.

The TSX Composite Index fell 2.4 per cent or 343 points to close at 13,853.

Energy stocks led the way lower as New York oil futures fell below US$61 per barrel after OPEC lowered its estimate for demand next year.

The TSX is down 12 per cent from its 2014 highs racked up in mid-summer and now is 230 points or 1.7 per cent above where it started the year.

A drop of 10 per cent or more from recent highs is considered a correction.

The loonie has closed the day at 87.13 cents US.
