Mother charged with her daughter’s murder in Surrey

By

SURREY (NEWS1130) – A 41-year-old woman has been charged in her child’s death.

Lisa Batstone has been charged with the second-degree murder of her eight-year-old daughter, Teagan.

The child’s body was found in the trunk of a car yesterday afternoon near 35A Avenue and Crescent Road.

RCMP say they’ve released the girl’s name in hopes it will drum up some more information on what happened.

The cause of death has not been released.

A man living in Ottawa has come forward on Twitter as Teagan’s father.

His name is Gabe Batstone and he says he’s too emotional to talk about Teagen today.

He writes: “Life will never be the same after losing my daughter to murder. Our family courts and thus we all failed.”

So it’s not clear what that’s about, it’s possible Teagan’s parents were involved in a custody dispute.

News1130 has heard from a former classmate and friend of Lisa Batstone who says the mother had been in a custody fight and struggled with mental health issues.

The source has told us her last text message from Batstone was two weeks ago, talking about Teagan.

The eight-year-old was the mom’s only child.
