There’s no place like home for the holidays — but what does ‘home’ mean to you?

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Ah, home: it’s that special place you can totally relax, and in his classic song, Perry Como says there’s no better place to be for the holidays.

A new survey takes a look at what “home” means to you.

It should come as no surprise that “family” topped the list across Canada.

Here in BC, where we’re said to be said be laid-back, “friend” was included in our top 10; we’re the only province to have that on its list.

“I guess we’re a friendly bunch in BC — or we think we are, anyway,” chuckles Brian Rushton with Century 21, which commissioned the poll.

“And all the way out to Quebec, Quebec was the only one of the provinces that put ‘investment’… in the top ten, so that was kind of interesting as well,” says Brian Rushton with Century 21.

He adds some other words that showed up, showing some Canadians took it all a little less seriously. Not in the top 10, but worth noting nonetheless, were “an escape from people” and “no strata fees.”

“That’s highly unusual, especially in the Vancouver market, because just about everybody has strata fees in Downtown Vancouver… And of course, the more rural areas, they don’t have strata fees; they’ve probably got taxes that bother them, but not strata fees,” says Rushton.

“Awesome” is another one.

And our favourites?

“Sweatpants” and “kitty!”

Because really, what’s better than being snuggled up beside a tree wearing your comfies, with a furry friend on your lap?
