Charities prepare for a final donation push

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – You may be counting down the days until Christmas, but it’s not the only countdown. December 31st is the deadline for Canadians to receive a 2014 tax credit for making a charitable donation.

Marina Glogova with the non-profit CanadaHelps says December is perfect mix of tax benefits and goodwill. “We see year after year that December represents roughly about 30 per cent of all annual donations and then the last three days in December are 10 per cent.”

“December 31st is like 5 or 6 per cent so December is definitely is a huge month for charities and for giving in Canada,” she explains.

She adds the new First Time Donor’s Super Credit put in place by Ottawa will spur even more donations this year, with people eligible to get almost three-quarters of what they give back if they do it before the New Year.
