Another trucker strike could be in the works

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Another strike could be coming to our ports as Metro Vancouver truckers have voted to go ahead with one if the province strays from negotiations made in the spring.

A union meeting yesterday saw an overwhelming turnout of drivers. A unanimous resolution was made to go ahead with the strike if necessary.

This all comes after the Ministry of Transportation revealed its proposed rate structure for truckers last week, the union says it undermines the deal the parties came to in March.

Truckers say they’re used to companies undercutting each other but the BC government doing it will not bring labour peace at the port.

In March, drivers shut down services for nearly four weeks protesting long wait times and poor rates.

After a lot of disruption they eventually reached a negotiation with the province and the port.
