SURREY (NEWS1130) – A man has died of his injuries after a Transit Police involved shooting in Surrey.
It happened just after 8 a.m. at the Safeway around King George and 104th Avenue.
The case involved a distraught man who was reportedly found stabbing himself in the store.
Kellie Kilpatrick of the Independent Investigations Office says Transit Police were nearby and responded, adding it appears the man came at officers and that’s when he was shot.
“One of the questions we’ll be asking is whether he had self-inflicted wounds. We need independent corroboration before we confirm that.”
She points out onlookers will be vital to piecing together what happened.
“There were a number of witnesses who were in the store at the time, like employees. Safeway instituted its emergency protocol, putting the store in lock down, which gave us an advantage of having access to witnesses.”
The man was rushed to the hospital, but did not survive.
