Search called off for Liang Jin

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The search for a missing 21-year-old believed to have gone hiking in the North Shore Mountains has been called off for now.

Mike Danks with North Shore Rescue says searchers have found no sign of Liang Jin. “We had 30 field team members, two aircraft and basically we focused on an area in Lynn Headwaters Park called The Hanes Valley and the information that the police had gathered indicated that was the most likely area he would be.”

Danks says without more information, they aren’t sure if they will keep looking. “We are going to meet as the search manager group and we are going to discuss with the Vancouver Police Department and kind of take another fresh look at what we have here and what information may have gathered, if any tips have come in,” he explains. “We are going to regroup and reassess.”

Rescue efforts have been complicated by several avalanches in the area Lin is believed to have gone which has erased possible tracks and made accessing the trail dangerous for searchers.

Jin has been missing since Dec 31st, the last known contact with him was when he texted his father that he was going hiking.

If you have any information that could help the search you are asked to contact the police or NSR.
