Mable Elmore officially launches nomination campaign for federal seat

VANCOUVER – Mable Elmore has officially launched her campaign to be the NDP’s candidate in the federal riding of Vancouver East.

Elmore is currently a New Democrat who represents Vancouver-Kensington in the provincial legislature.

She marked the start of her campaign with a rally on Saturday at a pub in the city’s Mount Pleasant neighbourhood.

She says she plans to commit to grassroots organizing and will build on the legacy of Libby Davies, who has held the seat for 17 years but is retiring from federal politics.

Before Elmore was elected to the provincial legislature in 2009, she was a community organizer and activist on issues including human rights and climate change.

Pot activist Jodie Emery recently lost her attempt to be the Liberal candidate for Vancouver East, when the party’s so-called green light candidate review committee rejected her bid.
