Group on ‘Yes’ side of referendum admits TransLink’s reputation will be a challenge

NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS1130) – A community group is holding a forum in New Westminster this evening, as it voice support for the ‘Yes’ side in the coming transportation referendum.

But Maria Robinson with the Metro Vancouver Alliance admits TransLink’s reputation could prove a challenge.

“It’s about funding people’s ability to move around this region. It’s not about whether or not we trust TransLink to manage their money or not. What we need is more buses. We need more SkyTrains,” she argues.

“Transit is not in a good state right now. Service levels really haven’t changed since 2007, yet in that same time period, demand has been soaring. Population has been increasing,” says Robinson.

“Population is going to keep increasing. Demand is going to keep soaring.”

The event takes place at Holy Trinity Cathedral Hall at 6 o’clock this evening.
