Metro Vancouver mayors avoid the T-word

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – There’s no sign of the name “TransLink” in a new campaign launched by Metro Vancouver mayors to convince you to vote “yes” to a tax increase to fund future transportation and transit improvements.

Today, mayors were hammered with questions surrounding how they can convince people to give more money to TransLink. But no matter how many times they are asked, it seems there is still no clear answer.

While everyone continues to focus on the mayors campaign plan, which doesn’t include mention of TransLink, Surrey Mayor Linda Hepner provided this explanation, as well:

“Every single year, independently audited and we think this is the most efficient and sustainable way to move this region forward.”

The campaign features a jazzy animated poster showing voters what they can get if the plan is passed. It includes more busses, rapid transit and a new Pattullo Bridge. But Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson admits they will need more funding from the federal and provincial government for big projects.

Coquitlam’s mayor says while there isn’t much for his city in the future transit plan, people living there will still be using the projects in other jurisdictions.
