BC will work with federal gov’t on changes to assisted death laws: AG

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Our province’s attorney general says BC will be working with the federal government in looking at how to move forward with the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down a ban on assisted suicide.

Suzanne Anton says there’s a lot of thinking that needs to happen in the next few months. Particularly around what kind of amendments the feds will have to make to the criminal code.

“I think we will just have to wait and see on that one, there is obviously a federal election in the meantime so they’ll have to figure out themselves whether they want to do it before the election or after the election,” She explains.”I think that is the decision made by the court, that is the decision that we will be living with, working with and it certainly seems to reflect public opinion in Canada.”

The unanimous landmark Supreme Court decision was released on Friday.
