SURREY (NEWS1130) – If a yes vote is confirmed in the referendum to fund Metro Vancouver transportation, the Surrey Board of Trade wants more than just a new tax.
CEO Anita Huberman says that includes no toll for a new Pattullo Bridge. “[We want the PST and the administrative burden [to be] streamlined. We need to ensure that our economy remains competitive.”
“We want to save to plan for light-rail to be extended to the other areas of Surrey such as Cloverdale and South Surrey. We are growing by 1,500 to 1,800 people a month,” she explains.
The group also wants to ensure in the future, transit decisions are not put to a vote and instead elected politicians make the tough decisions.
The mail-in ballot will go out starting March 16th and needs to be returned by May 29th.
