Luka Rocco Magnotta to withdraw appeal of murder conviction: reports

By

MONTREAL (NEWS1130) – Published reports say Luka Rocco Magnotta will withdraw his appeal of a conviction in the first-degree murder of Jun Lin.

Magnotta’s case is scheduled to return to court at the province’s Court of Appeal on Wednesday.

Radio-Canada reports that Magnotta’s lawyer Luc Leclair has told them he will withdraw his client’s two appeals on Wednesday.

Magnotta was found guilty of first-degree murder and four other charges last December in the 2012 slaying and dismemberment of Lin, a Chinese engineering student.

Magnotta was seeking to be found not criminally responsible for the slaying because of a mental disorder.

In January, Magnotta said he was appealing the conviction and wanted a new trial.
