Body found in Hanes Valley; two hikers have gone missing in same area

NORTH SHORE (NEWS1130) – Could it be an answer for one of two families with missing loved ones who disappeared on local trails?

For now, it’s a mystery — but we should soon find out the identity of a body found in a remote hiking area in the North Shore mountains.

Not only were North Shore Rescue, the Coroners Service and North Vancouver RCMP involved in getting the body off the mountain, but Vancouver Police were involved as well.

However, the VPD isn’t saying why they were involved until the body has been identified and the person’s family has been contacted.

We do know the body was discovered in the Hanes Valley yesterday. It brings to mind two unsolved, high-profile cases of missing hikers over the last couple of years.

Liang Jin, 21, went hiking on New Year’s Eve; North Shore Rescue searched the Hanes Valley after Vancouver Police discovered on Jin’s computer that he may have headed there.

Lin had sent a text message to his father, saying he was planning to go hiking, but didn’t specify where he was going.

British tourist Tom Billings, 22, hasn’t been heard from since November 2013; two hikers claim to have seen him in that area, as well.

Police said Billings was an experienced hiker, who was on an eight-week tour of North America when he vanished. He wasn’t reported missing until several days after he was apparently seen in the Hanes Valley area.
