Drivers can expect to see incentives for greener vehicle purchases

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – If you’re thinking about buying a new car, you might want to consider something greener. The province’s Clean Energy Vehicle Program is coming back.

The program was around a few years ago to get more people to drive vehicles like electric cars and hybrids.

Blair Qualey with the New Car Dealers Association of BC says the details haven’t been worked out yet, but it should be similar to what was seen before.

“We’re going to try and model on the last program and there may be a few nuances here and there but I think it’ll be pretty close to the last time when the maximum incentive under that program was $5,000 and some even $2,500,” he explains.

He says this will help more people choose something a little more environmentally friendly for our roads. “The folks that have an interest in purchasing a clean energy vehicle will have the incentive to make it easier; this continues to be newer technology.”

Qualey is hoping to roll it out on April 1st right after the Vancouver Auto Show. The previous program included rebates for people who installed EV charging points in their home.
