North Vancouver man charged with child luring

SURREY (NEWS1130) – A 27-year-old man from North Vancouver is charged with one count of luring a child and one count of invitation to sexual touching.

Surrey RCMP has been handling the investigation which it says is ongoing.  Mounties say Victor Overfield was a volunteer with the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets in North Vancouver from 2007 to 2012 and with the Navy League Cadets in Vancouver from 2012 until his arrest in 2014.

“He would have been in contact with persons under the age of 18. Which is why we are advising the public and informing the public of his previous activities, as well as the fact we are looking for any kind of information that could assist our case,” says Corporal Bert Paquet.

“While we recognize the fact that his previous volunteering positions might have put him in touch with potential victims, we’re also not restricting our investigation to this particular field,” he adds. “We encourage anyone who may have been a victim, or have any information pertaining to Overfield that would be helpful to the police investigation, to contact us.”

Overfield has been released from custody on several conditions including no contact with his victim and any other young people.

If you have more information about this case you are asked to call Surrey RCMP at 604.599.0502 or CrimeStoppers at 1.800.222.TIPS.
