Clocks spring forward this weekend

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Most Canadians will be turning their clocks ahead tonight and at the same time — losing a precious hour of sleep.

Dr. Charles Samuels is the medical director of Calgary’s Centre for Sleep and Human Performance. He says the brain is also affected by the change to Daylight Saving Time.

“Not only do we lose an hour of sleep on that Saturday to Sunday transition but when you wake up at 7 a.m. if that is your wake up time it’s really in your brain 6 a.m., there are two reasons to be more tired in the morning.”

He adds it’s important you get enough sleep and don’t stay up too late to adjust to the time change.

The clock moves one hour forward at 2 a.m. on Sunday.
