VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Wind Mobile has taken a greater claim of the wireless spectrum here in BC, as well as in Alberta and southern Ontario, as a result of an auction this week.
Steve Anderson with OpenMedia says it gives consumers more choice but people in other countries still have it better.
“There will definitely need to be more measures taken,” Anderson says. “There are going to be future spectrum options for sure, and we’ll need to see some set aside for new entrants as well.”
Anderson points out that on average Canadians still pay some of the highest cell phone bills in the industrialized world.
“What we need to do is open up the networks so we have a range of independent options,” Anderson says. “A fourth player is great, but other countries have many more than that.”
As a result of this move, Wind will be able to offer its customers faster data transfers than it has previously.
