Post-secondary students launching campaign to get people to vote in the transportation plebiscite

By

METRO VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – They probably depend on public transit more than the rest of us. That’s why some post-secondary students will be gathering tomorrow to push their peers to get on board the “Yes” side in the plebiscite on paying for transportation and transit improvements.

Student associations are focused on getting others registered to vote in both this plebiscite and in other elections.

The one at Kwantlen is hosting the launch, but the campaign is a joint one, involving schools like UBC, SFU, BCIT, Langara College, and Capilano University.

About 200,000 students are represented by the associations involved.

A poll released by Insights West yesterday, found the “yes” side is lagging; more than 30 per cent of people who responded said they’d be voting that way. Compare that to more than 50 per cent taking the “no” side.

We are seeing similar results on our exclusive News1130/PlaceSpeak survey.

Tune into News1130 at 7 p.m. Monday March 16th for an hour of special discussion on the tax; we’ll have representatives from each side.
