Abbotsford mayor happy about Highway 1 expansion

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS1130) – As part of the province’s new transportation plan, Highway 1 from Langley to Abbotsford will include the addition of one lane in each direction. That will bring the total number of lanes to six.
It’s no secret, in ten years more lanes will likely be needed to keep up with demands from population growth but Abbotsford Mayor Henry Braun says it’s not likely to happen.
“Sure, am I in favour of putting eight lanes? Absolutely but from a financial, fiscal view point I don’t see that happening.”
He says overall he’s ecstatic and just hopes construction starts as soon as possible.
“We’re very pleased…it’s fantastic for Abbotsford, for the region and for economic prosperity in the area.”
Braun is also interested to see what’s coming for his city’s airport, as the province says the new plan includes upgrades for local airports.
