Flash flood damages ten Mission homes

MISSION (NEWS1130) – At least ten Mission homes have various levels of water damage from flash flooding that took place over the weekend.

Heavy rainfall caused debris to clog a culvert, and that quickly caused a flash flood.

“There’s a varying range of flooding that occurred in about 10 to 12 homes in that area,” says the District of Mission’s Director of Engineering and Public Works Tracy Kyle. “Some of them had very minor flooding and water damage, and a couple had significant flooding damage.”

That culvert has dealt with heavy rainfall before with no issues, according to Kyle, although further inspections will be taking place in the next two days to see if there has been any damage to it as a result of this event.

“We’re pretty good at having a proactive program to go out and monitor and inspect all of our culverts on a regular basis, and they actually had been done very recently,” says Kyle.

As for the people affected by the flood, even if they had insurance, an expert in that area tells us overland flooding coverage isn’t available in this country.
