RICHMOND (NEWS1130) – Charges have been laid against a Richmond man accused of stabbing his dog more than 60 times.

Last September, RCMP were called out to a man’s home and found a dead three-year-old Pomeraian.

The small dog had been stabbed 61 times in total.

Marcie Moriarty with the SPCA says police arrested its 27-year-old, Artyom Goncharuk, owner last week.

She adds he’s been released on bail. “One of his conditions is that he not have access or contact to animals, which I think is absolutely essential.”

Moriarty says he will face both criminal code and prevention of cruelty to animals act charges.

The accused is due in court next month.
