The province gets set to implement changes to liquor laws

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – When you hit up a liquor store tomorrow the prices will be the same or higher according to wine critic Anthony Gismondi but he says government will operate its stores at very low margins, going after the cheap and cheerful wines.

“People who like cheap inexpensive wine may be able to celebrate but in terms of the wine culture, I don’t think it’s a good deal for the future of wine in British Columbia,” he explains. “When you think about British Columbia wine, everybody loves BC wine, it’s expensive and it’s not going to get any cheaper so it’s not a good thing for BC to eliminate the interest in the high end wine world because that’s really the world that they live in.”

He thinks the independent wine shops bringing in some of the most of the most interesting wines in the world will suffer in terms of selection. “When we started all of this back two and half years ago I thought we were going to do something different and that doesn’t look like it’s going to happen.”
