Another case of the measles in Metro Vancouver

BURNABY (NEWS1130) – An immunization clinic will be held today at Carver Christian High School in Burnaby after a student there came down with measles.

The student was flying on Air China with two others who also contracted the disease; the other teens tested positive last week.

“We are following up with the rest of the school from that exposure to make sure that people are up to date with their immunizations,” says Dr. Michelle Murti with Fraser Health.

She notes symptoms can start anywhere between ten and 21 days after exposure.

“We’re recommending that anyone who was born on or after January 1st, 1970 should have two doses of measles vaccine. I think this is an important time to review [this].”

Measles can be airborne for up to two hours after an infected person leaves the area, and does not require direct face-to-face contact for transmission.
