Former Toronto Mayor Rob Ford will have surgery on cancerous tumour in May

TORONTO (NEWS1130) – Former mayor and current Toronto city councillor Rob Ford will have surgery to remove a cancerous tumour on May 11.

At a news conference outside of Mount Sinai Hospital, Ford said the tumour in his abdomen has shrunk enough for surgery, while a second tumour in his back has “pretty well disappeared.”

A team of four surgeons will operate on Ford, who says the entire operation is expected to last eight-to-10 hours.

“At least I have a second chance,” Ford said.

Ford, who thanked the public for an outpouring of support, expects to be in hospital for about two weeks after the surgery and hopes to be back on his feet by Sept. 1.
