Canucks end the road trip in Winnipeg

WINNIPEG,MB (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Canucks are looking to end the four game road trip on a positive note Saturday against the Jets in Winnipeg. (12pm, Sportsnet)

Winnipeg will be the slightly more desperate team. The Jets are trying to hold off the LA Kings for the final wild card spot in the Western conference, entering the day tied in points with the Kings (90) but have four fewer non-shootout wins – the first tiebreaker.

As for the Canucks, they sit five ahead of LA, and four up on third place Calgary in the Pacific division. A playoff spot hasn’t been clinched, but is in sight, and could become clearer after Saturday night, with both the Flames and Kings in action late.

The Canucks made some news yesterday, recalling forward Sven Baertschi from the Utica Comets. Baertschi is better than a point a game down on the farm. Ryan Miller is also practicing with the team, but is not yet ready for game action. Eddie Lack will get the call once again in goal.

“We (Lack) talked at the beginning of the year. We’re going to both be playing big games at important times, and we’re going to support each other.” Miller said yesterday.

“He’s (Lack) done a great job. It’s not an easy situation to step in to. I’ve enjoyed that he’s made strides, and become a better goaltender over the course of the year.”

Saturday’s meeting between the two teams is the third and final between the two this season, with the Canucks winning twice in Vancouver earlier this season.
