Vancouver’s Cambie Corridor could soon become more affordable for families

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Vancouver City Council has approved a staff report which will look into the development of more diverse housing along the Cambie Corridor.

This comes as the city hopes to create areas with a family focus.

The area, that a staff report recommends considering for development under Phase 3 of this plan, spans from 16th Avenue to the Fraser River, between Oak and Ontario streets.

City Councillor Geoff Meggs says the idea is to build more diverse housing options, although the specifics will involve consultation.

“We’ll have consultation about what kind of additional development is appropriate up and down the Cambie corridor where the Canada Line is proving such a success. It’s the third phase — a promised phase — that was delayed so people could get a sense of what was happening in Phases 1 and 2. We’re there, now,” says Meggs.

“How wide should that development corridor be? What sort of housing should be provided there? What should happen with the revenues that may be generated? All those questions are on the table.”

More than 6,500 new units were approved under Phase 3 of this plan.
