Canucks fans putting Game 1 loss behind them

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s a tough morning for Canucks fans who watched the home team go down 2-1 to the Calgary Flames last night, after leading 1-0 for most of the game.

But the wheels remain on the bandwagon, so far.

The opening game of Round 1 of the Stanley Cup playoffs was a tight one — even after Calgary tied it up in the third period and then won with a goal in the final 30 seconds, there is still a lot of optimism.

“It is what it is and they are going to be fine, 100 per cent!” says one particularly cliche-prone member of Canucks nation.

“It was a good first game. I thought we came out with a real sense of aggression but just didn’t have that final killer instinct that we need. But it’s only Game 1. I’m not worried,” adds another.

Canucks coach Willy Desjardins says he was impressed by the Flames — a young, speedy team — and Vancouver will need to work hard to counter their aggressive defense jumping up on the play as the series continues.

News1130 Canucks specialist Ann Schmaltz agrees.

“Vancouver came out and dominated most of the game. However, when the Flames finally got that tying goal eight minutes into the third period, the Canucks just fell so flat; there was no pushback,” Schmaltz says from the News1130 Sports Centre.

“They tried to over-extend themselves and nothing was working. But give credit to Calgary; the Flames just kept coming and coming and coming. The speed of that team caught up with the Canucks.”

The home team has a day to re-group before Game 2 at Rogers Arena tomorrow night.
