VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Provincial funding is now available for people left with badly damaged homes following a flash flood in Cache Creek over the weekend.
The recovery will be a long one, but help from neighbours is making a difference. Ashcroft has lent the village a backhoe and a dump truck to scrape up the mud left behind and Clearwater has offered help as well.
Mayor John Ranta says more homeowners have learned they won’t ever be allowed back. “They were knocked off their foundation. Those homes I believe will be condemned at some point. The property owners have contacted their insurance companies who say the insurance policy doesn’t cover this type of damage”
Ranta adds the fire hall has also been badly damaged. “There was extensive debris that actually built up against the fire hall door, broke through the fire hall and went right through the fire hall and broke out through the back doors.”
The BC government is offering homeowners, renters, business owners and even farmers the chance to apply for disaster funding that will help them rebuild. They will all be assessed on a case by case basis.
