Concern in Port Coquitlam after child killer granted escorted day passes

PORT COQUITLAM (NEWS1130) – Port Coquitlam’s mayor isn’t too happy with the recent decision to allow child killer Allan Schoenborn out on escorted day passes. He says there has been no communication from the physiatrist hospital about what kind of safeguards will be place.

Neither the city nor the RCMP was officially informed about the BC Review Boards decision to release Schoenborn once it was made says Greg Moore, and people in the community are horrified.

“I put it up on my Facebook page yesterday when it came down and it is full of comments that people are disgusted with the decision, they can’t believe that this could happen. How come the community’s not consulted?”

Moore has some real concerns with the way this is being handled. I think they need to worry about the family because the family lives in the community. It’s not like they live in Montreal or even up North,” he explains. “They are saying they are not going to tell the family when and where they are going out into the community.”

He doesn’t believe Schoenborn has made enough progress to be allowed out and still has work to do. The 47-year-old has been at a psychiatric hospital after being found not criminally responsible for killing his three young children in Merritt in 2008.
