VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – What can Vancouver do to address bike theft in the downtown core? A local city councillor thinks he may have a solution and is proposing an idea that would create 1000 new secure bike parking spaces in downtown Vancouver.
There’s been a significant increase in people biking to work says Councillor George Affleck.
“The challenge we have is secure parking for bikes. Anybody who owns a bike in the city and hasn’t had a bike stolen, it’s unusual. We get our bikes stolen all the time in the city and finding better, secure places to put bikes would be a priority I think for the city.”
“One of the benefits we have is a significant amount of money in a parking fund so this is cash basically available for any kind of facility that might work for this,” he adds.
Affleck would also like to see with shower facilities and a repair centre located near the proposed parking spaces for cyclists. A motion is being presented to council this week.
