RCMP Inspector Tim Shields suspended

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – An RCMP officer who used to work as one of the public faces of the force in BC has been suspended with pay. Mounties aren’t able to tell us why at this time.

RCMP confirm that Inspector Tim Shields has been suspended since May 19th. They say there’s a code of conduct investigation underway and privacy rules prevent them from telling us anything else. Mounties want to emphasize this is not a disciplinary measure.

Shields is still the defendant in two sexual harassment lawsuits. One filed by former colleague Atoya Montague almost two years ago accuses Shields of exposing himself to her on more than one occasion. An RCMP internal investigation cleared Shields of wrong doing in that case.

The second launched last summer by another female Mountie accuses Shields of physical and verbal assault and harassment. Shields denies all the claims in both lawsuits.

This is happening as lawyers for 363 female Mounties try to get their lawsuits class-action certified. No dollar figure is attached, but a judgement would likely be in the millions.
