Flight students can’t log hours due to poor visibility

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – That thick haze blanketing Metro Vancouver is making things difficult for flight students.

Flight training is restricted says Pat Kennedy with the Pacific Flying Club who explains they prefer to have 15 miles to fly and are only getting about 2.5 right now.

“On a day like this where we might do 80 hours. We might be down to ten hours depending on the type of training that is taking place and the breaks in the visibility that we might see during the day,” she says. “It makes it more challenging obviously for an aircraft that is coming in under visual flight rules when visibility is down and the aircraft is going significantly fast than a flight training aircraft.”

She adds with visibility so restricted, students who would normally be flying up to twice a day are out of luck when it comes to banking the hours they need.
