METRO VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Hundreds of calls are being made by people telling on their neighbours for flouting watering restrictions.
There have been about 20 calls a day in Vancouver since June 1st. The city has handed out 600 warnings.
Surrey has issued more than 200 warnings. There have been dozens more in other municipalities.
At least in Vancouver, only a handful of actual tickets have been handed out so far. But that could change; the city warned yesterday that by-law officers will be escalating enforcement.
The fine is $250 for watering lawns outside allotted times.
Flower and vegetable gardens, planters, shrubs and trees can still be watered at any time. But with current restrictions, it’s down to once a week for your lawn.
