PORT ALBERNI (NEWS 1130) – Divers have found the body of a man killed in a boat crash at Sproat Lake near Port Alberni.
Police didn’t find the victim until this morning, 18 hours after the accident.
RCMP Cpl Patrick Jenkins says they believe speed was a factor but alcohol was not. “We are not sure exactly what it hit. We suspect that it hit a wave that obviously caused the boat to lift off the water, from that point, once it lifted off the water and then came back down it disintegrated.”
Jenkins adds the driver of the boat was also injured. “One person was actually rescued by onlookers at scene and transported to a dock where an ambulance could take over and transport him to hospital.”
The names of the victims have not been released.
