Water usage dropping in Metro Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – This wet weather is certainly helping bring down water use in Metro Vancouver, but it’s not the only thing curbing consumption.
Water use has dropped to an acceptable level since Stage Three restrictions were brought in on Monday.
Utilities Chair Darrell Mussatto says the numbers show people are paying attention to what they use at home. “Even just making sure you are having a shorter shower is great. When you are brushing your teeth please don’t let the water run while you are doing so. All those things add up and the reservoirs being as stressed as they are, they certainly appreciate it when people do that.”
Mussatto says they’ve been hearing great water conservation ideas from people lately. “The best one I’ve heard and I think a lot of people are doing it is instead of running your tap to get a glass of cold water, fill a jug and put it in your fridge. That way it’s ready to go, you don’t have to run your tap to get it cool. That is really positive and it may only seem like a little bit but if everybody did that it’s actually quite a big number”
He’s confident that if we can stick to under 1.2-billion litres a day as a region, the reservoirs will last until November. But he says don’t expect the Level Three restrictions to be dropped until the fall.
