A new study suggests Canadians are among the most satisfied people in the world and it has a lot to do with amount of freedom we enjoy.
The Fraser Institute says Canada consistently ranks among the top 10 countries when it comes to economic freedom.
“I’m also glad to say Canada is among the top 10 happiest nations on the globe,” says Fred McMahon, a resident research fellow for the right-wing policy group.
“It makes intuitive sense. If you are in control of your ability to make a living, your choices on what to buy rather than having the government decide, your choices on how much to save, who to work for or who to hire — you’re just more in control of your life. That increases your happiness or life satisfaction, according to what is now a very consistent and strong body of research,” he tells NEWS 1130.
McMahon says Canada’s high ranking in both the happiness and economic freedom indexes has a lot to do with “pretty good and consistent policy” under both Liberal and Conservative governments over the past few decades.
